Stronger Voices Project
The Stronger Voices project researches trans (including non-binary) people’s experiences of Housing, Healthcare, Livelihoods, and Community within England, Scotland, and Wales.
The Stronger Voices research explores how disadvantages and discrimination within Housing, Healthcare, Employment, and Education are interlinked for trans people. By also exploring what trans communities want, need, and create to navigate these systems, we aim to create research that sees the power of trans communities, rather than solely focusing on our struggles.
Through hosting workshops and talks about the Stronger Voices Project, we aim for the robust data we have created to be used by community advocates, organisations, and decision-makers to develop informed policies and practices that meet the needs of trans communities. We welcome others to use and adapt our methods for future projects.
Our Methods
The Trans Learning Partnership is run by trans people, however, to make our research truly for and by trans communities, we aim to involve wider trans communities at every stage of our research in ways that meaningfully share decision-making power.
Stronger Voices puts into practice a participatory action research (CPAR) model created by the Trans Learning Partnership, which aims to center and upskill, rather than exploit, trans communities.
You can read more about our methods in the Stronger Voices report. In the video below you can hear directly from trans people who were involved in the project.

Listen to us for Justice Zine
In October 2025, as part of the ‘Stronger Voices’ project we returned to the cities we had previously conducted research in. We ran skill-sharing workshops for trans people in London and Glasgow which focused on trans community-led approaches to research.
As part of these workshops trans people took existing research titles, and cut them up into new works exploring the topics of:
- Perceptions of current research on trans people
- Trans experiences of doing research
- Messages for researchers
- Ideas for future research
- Hopes for the future
The ‘Listen to us for Justice’ zine is created from the collages created within those workshops.
The Zine has AltText built into it, but if needed for accessibility you can download a written descriptive version with no images.
The future of Stronger Voices:
We are working on making our research accessible to wider audiences by creating a short animation exploring the findings.
We are also working on an academic write-up of the research.
Our Funders:
The Stronger Voices Project is funded by Trust for London.
